Vietnam - Saigon streets, Cu Chi tunnels

We arrived in Saigon (Ho Chi Ming City – HCMC) by train.

One of the things we noticed in Saigon is the narrow buildings and the untidy over head cables. Some of the buildings are hardly 3m wide. Here are a couple of examples. Calypso will have fun travelling through the streets of Saigon with these overhead obstacles.

The road traffic do appear to follow any know common traffic rules. They come and go in all directions, particularly the motorcycles. You will be very brave to attempt to cross the road, but here are Alex and Robin taking up the challenge.

We saw these two blokes loading a full pressure gas cylinder on the motorbike, outside a gas plant. It was too heavy for one motor bike and his mate pushed it along on his motorbike. And he was pushing his mate along in the main stream of traffic flow!

We are not sure if this pair of newly wed were waiting for their motor cycles.

And when you are tire of it all, you'll simply hug your motorcycle and have a snooze.

Notice there are two left legs peddling this mobile banana store?

The old post office is worth a visit. It is very well preserved. They open every day of the week for business. The wooden telephone booths within were in immaculate condition.

We also made a trip to the Cu Chi tunnels. They were dug during the American war. Here is a picture of Le in a sniper hole. And another photo of Le in the tunnel.

Along the street of the third Madame Cu Hotel (there were three of them) there were several shops that would reproduce drawings, painting, etc. We watched some of these young people at work. They are artists in their own right:

Next post .... on Combodia.....
