Laos - Phu Hin Bun National Park

This is another one of those out-of-the-way places worth mentioned in a special feature blog. Part of the Phu Hin Bun national park is accessible by road, but the better part is best accessed via river boats.

We stopped about 40km into Hwy8 and took some photos of the lime stone karsts. They are quite enormous:

We boarded the long boats at Ban Nyaeng for about an hour's ride up the river to Ban Kong Lo where we stayed over night in a resort on the bank of the Nam Hin Bun. The team having a nice and relaxing time arriving at the resort over looking the river: You can just see in the photo a stream on the opposite bank. It looks like greyish water. It, in fact, was crystal clear water mixing in with the muddy waters of Nam Hin Bun.

The next day we boarded another set of long boats for the special sailing through the mountain on a river that flows underneath it (hope it make sense). The natural "tunnel river" is 7km long, averaging 30m wide. It was dark and rather claustrophobic, but there was the eagerness not to miss this journey.(picture of entrance); (picture of exit).

We stopped about a third way up the river to have a look at the stalactites and stalagmites and here are some photos:

After the day's trip, the group relaxed to a couple of roast piglets for dinner:

Ah ... well... all good things must come to an end.. Le sitting in front of the long boatgoing back down the river:

....next post ... on Vietnam.
